Raw Design is a specialist provider of mechanical engineering services. Located in Central Otago, it distributes world-leading mechanical engineering software and offers a top-level design, drafting and project management consultancy service.

Raw Design is owned and operated by Steven and Kim Hore. Both have qualifications in mechanical engineering and years of experience. In New Zealand Steven has worked for Oceana Gold and Fisher and Paykel, and in Germany, Wieland. Kim has worked in such specialist fields such as mining, manufacturing, HVAC, and water and waste.

Team strengths


Steve Hore Steve's strengths lie in analysing complex problems, and developing sensible solutions from his strong practical engineering and farming experience. He offers a full design package from conception through to development, drafting, project management, installation supervision and commissioning.

Kim Hore Kim's strengths are based on her exceptional CAD skills, her eye for detail and her ability to create systems to simplify complex information. She offers a complete CAD drafting, tutoring and support service, as well as project management. Her organisational ability complements Steve's design skills and rounds off Raw Design's overall design, drafting, project management and CAD service.

Software distribution

The distribution of ZW software is a new development for Raw Design. Through searching for quality drafting software at a reasonable price, Steven and Kim discovered the product's high specification levels, excellent accuracy and superb support. This inspired them to become New Zealand's sole distributor of the product range which has widened to include a 3D solution, ZW3D. Coming shortly are ZWMech, CADProfi and more.

ZWCAD & ZW3D have been developed by ZWCAD Software Co, a leading supplier of CAD/CAM software solutions, employing more than 400 staff and supported by an international network of strategic partners, distributors and resellers.
